Nutrition Advice for Cats
Cats with obesity can be at greater risk of a range of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, pancreatitis and skin problems. Most cats should weigh between 3kg and 4.5kg.
They should eat a few times a day and the amount they eat can be guided by the packaging. However, cats should eat about 40g per kilo of their body weight in wet food or for dry food 40g per kilo bodyweight/3 since dry food is more concentrated.
This should be their DAILY intake and divided over the day by the number of feeds or let them graze throughout the day as most cats like to do. If you choose to feed wet and dry food, you need to take into account how much of each and that you are still not overfeeding.
Another simple thing to make sure your feline companion is getting all they need is to check that the food you are feeding is ‘complete and balanced’ and has been tested by AAFCO standards. AAFCO tests pet foods to make sure they are to their claims on the packaging and include what a pet needs to stay healthy.
